About Me

Dr. Melissa L.F. Knuckles is a board certified dermatologist with special interests in caring for children and adults with diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. Blistering disorders, psoriasis, identification of malignant and pre-malignant lesions as well as ethic and cosmetic skin care are an important part of my everyday practice. I am honored to be affiliated with Dr. Bruce R. Barton, a  board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon. We are Kentucky's only husband/wife plastic surgery/dermatology team. Together we have over 50 years of combined clinical experience as well as four board certifications and two office locations.  This unique association provides comprehensive state of the art medical and surgical skin care.

Experienced Medical Professionals

Melissa L. F. Knuckles, a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Mississippi University for Women, Columbus, Mississippi, completed her medical training at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, Kentucky.  She received the Parish B. Cleveland Achievement Award.  During this time she also did interculated studies at the University of Edinburgh College of Medicine in Edinburg, Scotland and the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, Addenbrook's Hospital, Cambridge, England.      Dr. Knuckles completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee and a residency in Dermatology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, Kentucky.  Her dermatology residency intercalated studies at St. John's Hospital for Diseases of the Skin and Guy's Hospital, London, England.     Dr. Knuckles is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and a member of the American Academy of Dermatology.  Dr. Knuckles' clinical interests include psoriasis, general medicine, surgical and cosmetic dermatology.  Dr. Knuckles has lectured locally, nationally, and internationally,  published in dermatological journals and a textbook, appeared on local news as a dermatology consultant, and quoted in multiple newspapers.      Dr. Knuckles is a clinical investigator in numerous dermatologic drug studies. At this time, she is currently involved in several psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis clinical studies.  Psoriasis is a very physical and mental debilitating disease.   Dr. Knuckles is a very active in the fight against these diseases.

My Practice

Dr. Knuckles is a true believer that excellence in performing dermatologic and cosmetic procedures is derived from both education and experience.  She strives to keep current on the latest techniques and standards so that she can provide her patients with the up-to-date medical advances, surgical and cosmetic procedures. That’s why she focuses on thorough exams – checking your total health before performing any cutaneous surgery and/or cosmetic procedure/s. Dr. Knuckles also knows that surgery is never routine, no matter how many hundreds of times she has performed such procedure.  She never takes for granted that you have placed a great deal of confidence in her medical skills.

TRAINING & EXPERTISE  As your dermatologist, I want you to be confident knowing that I am highly trained and strive to expand my medical knowledge.  I pride myself in providing the care you need to keep your skin, nails, and hair healthy and cosmetic enhancement which makes you happy.  To give you this care, service and results, I am committed to continual education and learning.  I attend dermatologic lectures, meetings, and conventions to stay informed of new techniques, the latest products, and the newest equipment that a modern dermatology and cosmetic  practice can utilize to provide state-of-the-art cosmetic enhancement procedures.  Also, being a member of various professional dermatology associations helps me to stay abreast of the changes and recommendations for our profession.

Building a foundation of trust by treating my patients as special individuals is vital to my success.  I understand how uneasy some patients may feel about their skin, hair, and nail changes.  Whether the change is a positive, negative, and/or even life threatening, it is my goal to use my medical skills to make to treat your condition and/or cosmetic enhancement a physical and mental positive change. Dr. Bruce Barton (Spouse)

Dr. Bruce Barton is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification, Surgery of the Hand. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Association of Hand Surgeons and The Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association and is the past President of the Kentucky Society of Plastic Surgeons, elected by his peers.
